Clive Lewis OBE DL – A Tribute

CEDR was extremely sad to learn of the passing of Clive Lewis, an experienced mediator and business psychologist specialising in employee and industrial relations.

Clive became a CEDR-Accredited Mediator in 2004, before later joining the CEDR Mediator Panel, and was a leading dispute resolution specialist, particularly in workplace mediation. His book ‘How to Master Workplace and Employment Mediation’ published by Bloomsbury, was one of the first to examine the topic. He authored a further 13 other books, including ‘Difficult Conversations: 10 Steps to Becoming a Tackler not a Dodger’, which featured in The Sunday Times.

Clive was very active in public life and for numerous social and charitable causes. In 2012 he became a Deputy Lieutenant of Gloucestershire. He was awarded OBE in 2011 for his work in the field of mediation and for the REACH report on the importance of role models in black communities for the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Among his many achievements Clive was also role model himself in the mediation community, being one of a small number of successful non-white mediators practicing over the last twenty years and establishing the Globis consultancy. Clive was elected as a board member of the Civil Mediation Council (CMC), on which he served for many years.

Andy Rogers, Principal Consultant, CEDR, who served on the CMC Board with Clive for a number of years said, “The thoughts of CEDR are with Clive’s family and many friends. Clive was a remarkable man, who had a unique combination of thoughtfulness, intelligence, kindness and compassion. He has made an important contribution to commercial and workplace mediation and everyone in our field should be very grateful to him.”
