About Professional Development and MyCEDR
CEDR has operated its own professional development network – a form of individual membership – for almost two decades. Formerly known as the ‘CEDR Exchange’ and focused on the continuing development of Commercial Mediators, the Exchange Programme has worked with over 2,000 individuals around the world, providing over 75 learning forums and webinars as well as over 200 news updates and articles.
In recent years the landscape of continuing professional development (CPD) [sometimes known as continuing legal education or CLE for lawyers] has changed in the vast majority of professions to a format of self-certification, whereby individuals show their learning through the events and training they attend, the articles they read and write as well as other learning activities.
Mediator Professional Development at CEDR
CEDR ensures that it provides commercial mediators with over 200% of the CPD they would need for Registration with the Civil Mediation Council in the UK - which would mean consumption of just half of the output would meet the minimum requirement for registration.
The CPD offered should also be of relevance for other jurisdictions and countries that operate similar system such as Mediators Institute of Ireland and Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association.
Development for other Professions including Lawyers and Managers
Much of CEDR’s work is relevant to numerous professions and CEDR regularly provides training in these areas and therefore it was decided that it would be appropriate to offer CPD to a wider range of professions. This offering fits with the trend of self-certification with individuals being responsible for their own development. The subject matter will contain Negotiation, Dispute Resolution and Managing People.
Earning CPD points with CEDR
One full hour of activity such as by attending an event or reading a number of articles equates to one CPD point. If you wish to claim CPD points please get in touch here.
Much of CEDR’s CPD will be appropriate for the following bodies in the UK:
The Law and Dispute Resolution Professions:
- Solicitors Regulation Authority
- Bar Standards Board
- Chartered Institute of Legal Executives
- Chartered Institute of Arbitrators
Professional Groups related to Managing People:
- Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development
- Chartered Management Institute
- Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators
- Institute of Directors Individual
- Institute of Leadership & Management
